IronMan 2018 welcomed us with perfect conditions in Taupo, so perfect that all top 3 elite males smashed the previous course record.
We had athletes competing in both the half and the full distances. In the half David Musson crossed the line in just over 5 hours, leaving him one spot out of the top 10 in his AG but is looking in great shape for his full IronMan later in the year. 4 mins behind him Neil G smashed his previous PB earning 9th in his Age Group. 7 mins later Regan hobbled over the finish line, pretending to have an injury to explain whilst his arch rival had just beaten him.
""I'm never doing one of these again" stated Neil whilst in the recovery tent. Only moments later remembering he's already booked in for Rotorua in December.
In the full Iron Man Sandi Woolridge gave the club the best result of the day coming home in under 12 hours and strolling into 7th position in her Age Group. Tony Frost also danced into the finishing chute in 13:11 beating his previous years time by THREE AND A HALF HOURS!!!! Wow.
Chris Woodward on the other hand managed to be 20 mins slower than his previous effort in 2016. Chris - what the hell are you playing at? :P
In all seriousness, no matter the result, these events are a huge achievement and you have all made your club proud!
Also a huge shout out to our Run Coach Teresa Adam taking home 2nd in the Elite womens race on her bday! Amazing!
